Diagnosis of gingivitis

Gingivitis can easily diagnosed at the appearance of the gums. An apparent inflammation helps the doctor or dentist to distinguish a bacterial infection of a herpes virus. Biopsies surface provide information on the species of bacteria, but they are rarely useful to the choice of treatment and that is why they are not usually made.

Gingivitis is sometimes the first sign of another illness, like diabetes or leukemia. If gingivitis person suffers from an inflammation of the gums for no apparent reason, the doctor may decide to conduct a more thorough examination.
